5 Top Free Online Course Resources for Professionals In 2020

Diverse Professionals working in a group on their laptops

A lot of professionals have had to put a halt to their professional development due to COVID. Because of that, you are now bored from not being able to go to work – and having nothing much to do at home also. Fortunately, we are in an age of advanced digital technology, where you can learn how to change a tire from youtube, but that’s not all you can do. You can also continue your professional development through free online courses and training that provide certificates.

We have curated a list of online courses/training platforms where you can learn in-demand skills for free.

You should have heard about Udacity before now. If you haven’t, they are only an online learning and development platform that has worked with all of Google, AT&T, and Facebook, among others. This goes on to show their authority in the market. Thus, whatever you learn from here will be applicable in real-world situations too.

Udacity has a premium section but they also put up some of their courses for free. Here, you can learn all about Android development, web development, data analysis., mobile development, and more.

Class Central

Class Central is a listing of online courses. They aggregate courses from many providers to make it easy to find the best courses on almost any subject, wherever they exist.

They focus primarily on free (or free to audit) courses from universities, offered through massive open online course (MOOC) platforms. Whatever you are interested in learning, it is more than likely that their catalog includes a course that will meet your needs.

Through Class Central, you can find courses; review courses you’ve taken (and read other people’s reviews); follow universities, subjects, and courses to receive personalized updates; and also plan and track your learning.

The brainchild of two juggernauts in Harvard and MIT, edX has been online since 2012. Even if they hadn’t enjoyed close to a decade in the online learning market, the quality and authority commanded by both institutions behind it is enough social proof to show you why you should be there too.

Both educational institutions are famed for their strides in the technology space. It is, thus, not surprising that you can get the best of robotics, solar engineering, and such core tech subjects here. That said, Harvard also excels in social management and related classes. That makes edX a fine place to get your People management and project management skills up.

Furthermore, there are some language classes, business courses, and more to explore for free on the platform.

Every course on Coursera is taught by top instructors from world-class universities and companies, so you can learn something new anytime, anywhere.

Hundreds of free courses give you access to on-demand video lectures, homework exercises, and community discussion forums. Paid courses provide additional quizzes and projects as well as a shareable Course Certificate upon completion.

ALISON is a predominantly free online course platform.

This platform aims to turn everyone that walks through its doors into a better professional than when they came in. The very fact that it is mostly free does nothing to impact the quality of lessons, videos, or instructions that you can get there either. Striking the balance this way is most impressive to us.

ALISON has a bigger focus on helping to develop skills that will help you advance within the workplace. The target is to equip professionals and/ students with the tools they need to scale onto the next stage of their intended growths. This is the place to be if you have been considering a career change, seeking promotion, or would like to be better at your office.
